Nykaa Matteilicious Lip Crayon- Perfect Plum (02)- Review & Swatch

Hello and welcome back and a very good morning!

It’s hot like hell here in Thane (we are hitting 35 degree centigrade today), and I am blue with Monday fever. And what’s the better way to fight Monday blues than to talk about some lipticks. 😀

I am here today with Nykaa Matteilicious Lip Crayon in the shade Perfect Plum (02).

Brand- Nykaa is into lipsticks since November’ 16 and their latest launch is the Matteilicious Lip Crayons which has four shades, out of which I have picked up shade no. 2, Perfect Plum, which is a deep maroonish plum shade and very very flattering for the deeper skin tones. The lipsticks are available in Nykaa online stores.

Price- 650 INR

Quantity- 2.8 g

Packaging- The crayons come in standard Nykaa packaging of pinkish red hard paper outer box along with the free “Nykaa prove your point” cosmetic sharpner which is packed separately in a same looking box. The crayon is color-coded and represent the exact same color of the lipstick. The cover sits tightly over the nib, however there is no reassuring click sound, but once placed tightly they are unlikely to slide out. What I love most about the Nykaa lipsticks is that there expiry date is very vividly written in the body and this time it is too vivid to miss out even mistakenly.

The sharpner comes with its own cleaner making the entire experience quite comfortable.

Company claims- The company says, “…a pigment-rich formula that settles on your lips in the most gorgeous matte finish, giving you the perkiest pout ever! Made in Germany, Nykaa Matteilicious lip crayon’s waterproof, long-lasting, and non-drying formula is enriched with emollients for a super comfortable, smooth texture.” Take a look at the ingredient list (I included this on suggestion of a friend).

Formula- Going one by one with the company claims, the formula is indeed very pigment-rich and gives an opaque finish just in a single stroke. The formula settles in a perfect matte finish sans any sheen (unlike the So Matte! Range) though being quite creamy. It glides easily on the lips and are comfortable on application but it goes a little dry over the time therefore it is advisable to prep your lips well. I am not quite understanding its waterproof quality as of now. Maximum lipsticks sustain in water, isn’t it? However, we are planning for a water-park outing this monsoon and I will be able to check it properly then and will update the post accordingly. Coming to its long-lasting claim, yes it’s quite long-lasting, it stayed on me for a good 6 hours (beyond that I stopped counting). It quite even survived a meal (light and non-oily), however, it faded a little from the corners. I touched up the faded areas lightly, and it was good to go. However, while touching up, one has to be a little careful and touch up only the faded areas (which is not hard at all owing to its crayon format) as build up over the existing color gave me a little cakey feel. It transfers a little, reasonably less in fact and this time it’s a paraben-free formula.

Smell & Taste- It has no smell and no taste.

Shade- Take a look at the hand swatch first.

It’s a perfect maroonish plum color with no shimmer and no sheen but quite creamy. The shade will be very very flattering for the deeper skin tones. However, lighter skin tones can create a real bold look with this. It looks quite the same in bullet as that in lips.

1. Reasonably priced compared to the other crayons in the market.

2. Comfortable formula on lips

3. Paraben-free

4. Cruelty- free

5. Long-wearing

1. Crayon format leads to product wastage

2. Building up may feel a bit cakey

3. Fades a little from corners upon snacking

My take: It gave quite a brightening effect to my face. The formula is quite comfortable for me (as I feel very uncomfortable with flat matte formulas, this coming from me means its really kinder to the lips.) It did settled into lines after about 4 hours or so. The shade is quite carry-able in both daytime and evening. But I think, I will be more comfortable with this in the evening or in any indoor daytime parties. I can’t tell about the whole range, but as for this shade, it really worth giving a try. And this is how the color looks on me (Yellow-toned fair to medium complexion):
